Katie's Bio

From seafood and vegetables, to noodles and desserts, Katie Chin is the expert when it comes to creating everyday authentic Asian masterpieces in a snap. Acclaimed co-author of “Everyday Chinese Cooking” (written along with her equally talented mother, Leeann), Katie provides delicious Asian recipes that are simple to prepare and naturally healthful. She proves that the very best Asian cooking can be achieved in a real home kitchen, by real people, on real schedules.

Born and raised in Minneapolis, and the youngest of five children, Katie grew up an all-American kid who liked hot dogs, pizza, and French fries. Thanks to her mother, she also had a taste for fresh vegetables with subtle sauces, dumplings, spicy meats, crisp-skinned fish, steaming bowls of white rice, and light desserts.

After attending college and ascending the executive ranks in the entertainment industry, she discovered she rarely found time to cook, instead surviving on restaurant food, takeout and pints of ice cream. Eventually her mother intervened, exclaiming, “If you go to a restaurant and sit down, it’s two hours…In that time you could make something healthy!”

Feeling inspired and back in touch with her culinary roots, Katie quit her marketing job and launched a catering company with her mother, Double Happiness Catering. Today, she shares a passion for Asian cuisine, style and culture, and is committed to teaching the American public real-life time saving shortcuts for everyday Asian cooking that will create delicious meals for the entire family.

One shortcut she reveals is using Thai Kitchen and Simply Asia products found at most Asian markets, supermarkets and health food stores. Thai Kitchen and Simply Asia put “the simple in Asian cooking”, tells Katie. Since all the complex flavors that you’ve come to love in Asian dishes are found in these authentic products, most of the work is done for you.

Katie has made numerous appearances on "The Today Show" and has appeared in specials for The Food Network and Fine Living. She has been featured in Glamour, Family Circle, Cooking Light, Bon Appetit, Self Magazine, Angeleno Magazine, Hampton Magazine, Elle Magazine, Daily Candy, Daily Variety and The Los Angeles Times.
